Humane Society of Western Montana to Participate in ASPCA® Mega Match-a-thon

Community Support Needed to Find Homes for 125 Pets—the largest adopt-a-thon to date in Missoula!

Missoula, MT – The Humane Society of Western Montana today announced that they are one of 55 animal rescue organizations receiving grant funding to participate in the first ever ASPCA's 'Mega Match-a-thon' event, which will take place in on March 31 – April 1. The ASPCA® (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®) is granting nearly $500,000 to support large-scale adoption events held simultaneously nationwide in an effort to save more lives of shelter animals.

"The ASPCA Mega Match-a-thon is a great event for our staff, other shelters in western Montana and members of our community to help the many wonderful homeless cats and dogs find loving homes," said Lora O'Connor, director of the Humane Society. "Our goal is to adopt 125 pets in just two days, and working together nationwide on this event means we can save thousands of animals and enrich the lives of new adopting families."

Facts about the Mega Match-a-thon:

  • The Humane Society will be housing 100+ pets each day for the event.
  • Our goal is 125 pets adopted in two days; last year this same weekend the shelter adopted three pets.
  • This is the first time the shelter has been open on a Sunday.
  • All pets will be spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and adopted with a tote bag full of goodies.
  • The cost for adoption during the Mega Match-a-thon will be 'unveiled' on Wednesday, March 28th at 1pm on our website.
  • The Humane Society uses the Meet You Match®, the only method that evaluates a pet's behavior and interests and matches them to an adopter's preferences—kind of like eharmony!
  • The Humane Society is not affiliated with any other national organization and has a 98% adoption rate. Almost 1100 pets found loving homes in 2011 through the Humane Society.
